DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Some special terms are used for easy description of this article as shown in Fig.1 table.
Fig. 3 to Fig. 8 shows varies angles of isometric view of this Default scanner.
This Default scanner is consisted of few items to make up the whole system. Each item having specific functions as below:
a) An ordinary barcode scanning function
b) Five buttons, namely + button, - button, REPEAT button, SET button and Scanning button.
c) Three LED indication lights, namely Bluetooth light, C (charging) light and READY light. The Bluetooth light is blue in colour, C light is yellow in colour and READY light is green in colour.
d) Built in Bluetooth function to interface between this Default scanner and the Barcode software of a user handset.
e) Built in rechargeable lithium cadmium battery to power this Default scanner. This mean user can bring this Default scanner to wherever he/she want and use this Default scanner to scan the barcode strip under a word or sentence of a Barcode book for the Default scanner to speak out this word or sentence.
f) Having a female Type-C socket for user to charge this Default scanner. This Type-C socket also acts as interfacing medium between this Default scanner and the user handset by properly connected a data cable between both the Default scanner and user handset.
g) Having a laser pointer. This is a dim laser pointer, where when point to an object formed a Light circle (circular shape light with 10mm in diameter). The Light circle is similar to the barcode scanning focusing position. That is the user just needs to point this Light circle to the required barcode strip and press Scanning button, then this Default scanner will process this barcode strip information and then speak out the word or sentence above this barcode strip.
h) Having a vibration sensitive sensor. This vibration sensitive sensor having two functions. First is to power ON this Default scanner and the second is to power ON the laser pointer. This Default scanner is set to automatically turn OFF power after 15 minutes of idle times (the user not uses this Default scanner and put aside for more than 15 minutes). When the user wants to use it by taking up this Default scanner, the movement created by this action will trigger the vibration sensor. Then this vibration sensor signal will turn ON both the Default scanner and its laser pointer power.
During Default scanner power ON, the READY LED light will start to blink as the Default scanner is initializing. Once it is initialized the READY LED light is permanently turn ON.
Now the user can start to use this Default scanner to scan the barcode strip of a Barcode book.
The Default scanner will turn OFF the laser pointer power after 30 seconds of idle time.
Once the user takes this Default scanner again, the vibration sensor once again been triggered and turn ON the laser pointer power instantly.
The timing of this Default scanner and its laser pointer turn ON/OFF are as shown in Fig. 2 table.
Detail operation of Bluetooth function:
a) The Bluetooth function mainly to connect this Default scanner to the Barcode software of user handset.
b) After connection, the user can do three main operations to this Default scanner as
Get access to the memory of Default scanner. Then the user can download more Book code files into the memory of Default scanner.
Select a specific Book code file and specify its translated language.
Work as a team with Barcode software. That is after user scanned a barcode strip under a sentence, this Default scanner will speak out this sentence via its speaker, while the user Barcode software will show both this sentence and the sentence in translated language.
c) Before this can be done, the user needs to activate the Bluetooth connection between the Barcode software and the Default scanner. This is done by first long press both the + and SET buttons for more than 5 seconds. Then the Default scanner Bluetooth blue colour LED will start to blink. Now, go to the Barcode software handset to turn ON the handset Bluetooth function.
Then go to Barcode software to select buttons with sequences as below:
Setting ® Default Scanner Interface ® Connect to Default Scanner.
If connect successfully, the Barcode software “Default Scanner Interface” screen will popup. Now the user can do any type of operation he/she wants on the Default scanner using this interfacing page.
d) Now the Default scanner Bluetooth LED will ON permanently instead of blinking until the user stop the Bluetooth connection between the handset and this Default scanner.
Once Bluetooth connection stop, this Bluetooth LED light will automatically turn OFF.
Detail operation of C (charging) LED light:
a) Once the user charging this Default scanner by connecting power supply cable to the Default scanner’s Type-C female socket, the C LED light will start to blink.
b) Once this Default scanner’s rechargeable lithium cadmium battery been fully charged, the C LED will permanently light up instead of blinking.
Detail operation of READY LED light:
a) If initially the Default scanner is in power OFF condition. Now the user pick up this Default scanner will make this Default scanner automatically power ON due to vibration sensitive sensor been triggered.
b) The READY LED light will start blinking as the Default scanner is initializing. Once the Default scanner is ready, this Ready LED light will permanently turn ON and the user can start to use this Default scanner.
Detail operation of + button and - button:
a) The + button is to increase the Default scanner’s speaker volume. Each press will increase the speaker volume by 10%, until 100% speaker volume reached.
b) The - button is to decrease the Default scanner’s speaker volume.
c) Each press will decrease the speaker volume by 10%, until speaker muted.
d) The Default scanner will memories the last speaker volume setting. For example, the current speaker volume is 90% of maximum value. After Default scanner power OFF and later power ON again, the speaker volume still remains at 90% of maximum value.
Detail operation of SET button:
a) This SET button is to change the Default scanner speaking for one language or two languages.
b) For example, currently the Default scanner is in one language speaking only. Now, the user presses the SET key one time. This will change the setting to two languages speaking. That is first the Barcode book language follow by the selected translated language. Press the SET key again will change back the setting to Barcode book language speaking only.
Detail operation of REPEAT button:
a) User presses this key will repeat the speaking of the previous sentence.
b) Once the user scanned a barcode strip, the Default scanner will make a “tik” sound, follow by the speaking out the sentence above this barcode strip. Let say this sentence is “How are you?”.
c) Now, the user presses this REPEAT key one time. Then the Default scanner will speak out “How are you?” one more time.
Detail operation of scanning button:
a) User presses this button will make the Default scanner to scan the barcode strip aim by the Light circle. The ‘Interleaved 2 of 5’ barcode system is used which contained only digit numbers, that is from 0 to 9.
For practical reason, the Book code is given 10 digits number (10 billion possibility), while the book content code is given 6 digits number (1 million possibility). That is this Barcode book system can support up to 10 billion different kind of books and each Barcode book can have up to 1 million barcode strips inside it to represent this book all the words or sentences.
This Default scanner can operate independently to speak out the sentence in a Barcode book when the barcode strip under this sentence was scanned.
This Default scanner can also work along with the Barcode software of a user handset. That is the Default scanner still speak out the sentence in this Barcode book when the barcode strip under this sentence was scanned, the user can also see this sentence and the sentence in translated language in his/her handset.
Depending on the book publisher, a Book code file must have the printed book language in audio form, or with additional one or more translated languages audio form. For a book with multiple translated languages audio form, the user only can select one translated language for use as current translated language. If the user wants to change to other translated language, he/she needs to go to the Barcode software’s Default scanner interface page to choose the new translated language he/she want. For example, currently the printed Barcode book language is in English and the translated language is in Chinese. Also, the user currently selected two languages speaking option. Now the user wants to change this translated language to Malay, then he/she just needs to go to the Default scanner interface page in the Barcode software to change this translated language from Chinese to Malay and update it. Then, during the Default scanner barcode strip scanning, the Default scanner will speak out the user scanned sentence (in English), follow by speaking in Malay of this sentence.
For Barcode software, the scanning device can be the user handset’s camera, barcode scanner or the Default scanner.
The barcode for Book code is a 10 digits decimal number, while for the Barcode book content, its barcode is a 6 digits decimal number. Let say currently a user read a Barcode book title “The Secret Garden” with Book code number 8662330022. Now he wants to change to read a Barcode book with title “Frankenstein” with Book code number 3988065421. Then in scanning mode, he just needs to scan the “Frankenstein” book cover barcode strip above the Book code number. Now the system will popup a message as shown in Fig. 19. User presses “OK” button will switch the active Book code file to this book “Frankenstein”. After this the user needs to make sure that he/she is scanning the Frankenstein Barcode book.
When Default scanner work independently:
a) When Default scanner work as a standalone unit, the user just needs to aim the Light circle to his/her required barcode strip and then press the scanning button. Now the Default scanner will speak out the sentence above this barcode strip.
b) The user needs to make sure that he/she is scanning the correct Barcode book.
c) If he/she wants to change to others Barcode book, he/she just needs to take this said Barcode book and scan the barcode strip under this Book code number (located at the upper right corner of book cover for this said Barcode book).
d) Let say the said Barcode book its book title is “At The End Of The Rainbow”.
e)Then the Default scanner will speak out “Book changed detected! The book title is “At The End Of The Rainbow”.
f) Now, the user needs to make sure that he/she is reading this book “At The End Of The Rainbow” and scan the barcode strip inside the content of this Barcode book and not the previous Barcode book.
g)The user can increase the speaker volume by press the + button and reduce the speaker volume by press the - button. The user can switch between one or two languages speaking by press the SET button. The user can rehearse the last Default scanner speaking by press the REPEAT button.
When Default scanner work along with the Barcode software:
Many functions can be done when the Default scanner is work along with the Barcode software, they are:
a) Set a particular Barcode book translated language.
For example, As shown in Fig. 20, the Barcode book with book title “The Magic Ring” having four types of translated languages for selection, they are Chinese, Malay, Japanese and Korean. Let say in this case the user selected Malay. Now, after barcode strip scanned, the Default scanner will speak out the sentence above this barcode strip, followed by the sentence in Malay language (assuming user selected two languages speaking option).
b) To download new Book code file into the memory of Default scanner. For example, as shown in Fig. 12 of the Default scanner interface page, the user pressed the “Download Book Code” button. Then a popup page comes out as shown in Fig. 13. Now, the user enters the new Book code number 9871723279 and press the “Start Download” button. Assuming that the user handset is currently connected to the internet and after a while this file is successfully downloaded. Then a new page popup as shown in Fig. 14 to inform the user that the book title “Magic Snowbird” is already downloaded successfully into the memory of Default scanner. The user then presses “OK” button to exit this popup page.
c) To check the Book code file inside the memory of Default scanner by either enter a specific Book code number to check or by observing using the Book code list.
For example, in the Default scanner interface page, the user pressed the “Book Code List” button. Then a new page is popup as shown in Fig. 15.
This Book code list display all the Book code files available inside the memory of Default scanner. The user can use the scroll bar at the right side of this Book code list to scroll up or down to see all the available Book code files.
It is note that the “Set As Current” button is disabled. To enable this “Set As Current” button, the user just needs to highlight any of the Book code file number or its book title, then the “Set As Current” button will become enabled as shown in Fig. 16.
Let say the user now presses the “Set As Current” button one time. Then this Barcode book with book title “The Very Percular Cow” will become the active Book code file for the Default scanner to access during barcode strip scanning.
Another example, in the Default scanner interface page, the user pressed the “Check Book Code” button. Then a new page popup as shown in Fig. 17 for the user to enter the Book code number to check. In this case the user enters 3941575333 and then pressed the “Check” button. Then another new page popup as shown in Fig. 18 to inform the user that this Book code file with book title “Journey To The Center Of The Earth” was existed in the memory of Default scanner.
If in case this Book code file was not found in the memory of Default scanner, the system will popup a page to suggest whether the user needs to download this new Book code file into the memory of Default scanner or not.
d) Work along with the Barcode software as a team, with Default scanner speak out the sentence above the scanned barcode strip, while the Barcode software display both the sentence and the sentence in translated language.
For example, a user currently reading a page of a Barcode book as shown in Fig. 23. Now the user wants to listen the sentence “How nice if I can find something valuable!”. Then he just scanned the barcode strip under this sentence and the Default scanner will speak out “How nice if I can find something valuable!”. Assuming the user selected one language only speaking option. Now the Barcode software main page will show this “How nice if I can find something valuable!” and also the Chinese translation as “如果我能找到一些值钱的东西那 多好!” as shown in Fig. 9.
Before the Barcode software and the Default scanner can work together as a team, the user first needs to select the “Default Scanner” in the “Select Scanner” option of the setting page as shown in Fig. 21.
